WNWO NBC 24 Weather Kid Rules
NOTICE: As of April 24, 2015, these contest rules were updated to reflect a change in the technology to accept online nominations. Paper entries must be post marked at least one week prior to the judging date. There are no other changes to the administration of this contest.
Who Can Enter
1. To be eligible to participate in this featured segment, entrants must be Ohio or Michigan residents who are the parents or legal guardians of the nominees, reside in the WNWO viewing area, and be existing users of Facebook, if entering via Facebook. Nominees must be Ohio/Michigan residents who are in the 4th, 5th or 6th grade, between the ages of 9 and 13 years old, and reside in the WNWO viewing area.
2. Employees of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., Sinclair Communications, LLC, and any other company which owns, programs or provides other services to television broadcast station WNWO (the "Station"), Facebook, Inc., Facebook.com, The Douglas Group, Inc. dba UPICKEM, their affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies, any and all local television broadcast and cable stations, local radio and other media companies, and the immediate family members of each are ineligible. The term "immediate family" includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren.
How to Enter
1. No purchase is necessary to enter. Parents or guardians of qualified nominees may enter once.
2. To enter, parents or legal guardians can log on to the Station’s website www.nbc24.com and click on the “Contests” tab or log on to the Station’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nbc24wnwo to access the online entry form. The online entry form/nomination must be completed by the parent or legal guardian of the nominee, and include the entrant’s name, address, telephone number, birth date and email address, the nominee child’s name, age, grade and school name, briefly describe the reasons YOUR child should be featured as a “NBC 24 Weather Kid”, and click “Submit.” Alternatively, entry forms can be printed from the website, then completed and mailed to WNWO-TV 300 S. Byrne Rd., Toledo, OH 43615. Entries must be post marked at least one week prior to the judging date. No mechanically reproduced or completed entries will be accepted.
3. The contest begins on October 13, 2014, and ends on June 15, 2015 (the “Contest Period”). Entries must be received by Station by 5:00 p.m. EDT each Tuesday during the Contest Period to qualify for the weekly judging. Station is not responsible for late, lost, or misdirected entries/mail, server unavailability, or any other electronic malfunction.
4. All valid entries will be judged by a panel of two (2) judges comprised of Station personnel, based on the following criteria: (i) child’s interest in science and weather, and (ii) suitability for on-air appearance. Each Wednesday during the Contest Period, the judges will determine one (1) nominated student to be the weekly Weather Kid based on the criteria set forth above. Remaining valid entries will carry over to the next weekly judging.
5. All entries received that are mutilated, tampered with, illegible, or from ineligible entrants will be void. All entries become the property of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc. and the Station, and will not be acknowledged or returned.
6. The student selected will be notified by telephone at least a week prior to his/her Wednesday appearance and given instructions to follow for the segment.
NBC 24 Weather Kid Appearance Conditions
1. The child and parent/legal guardian must arrive at WNWO at at least thirty (30) minutes prior to air-time on the appropriate Wednesday.
2. The parent/legal guardian must sign an affidavit of eligibility and a release form allowing WNWO to use the child’s image on television.
3. The child will be featured at least two (2) times during the designated newscast. The child will be introduced on-air by Meteorologist Norm Van Ness and present the daily weather forecast. Norm Van Ness will be on air with the child for support and/or to take over at any given time.
The Prize(s)
1. One (1) winning nominee will be selected each week. Each winner will receive the opportunity to appear in that week’s Weather Kid segment. Due to the nature of the prize, the value cannot be determined. The prize is subject to the availability of the Station’s meteorologists, and weather permitting.
2. Winners will be notified by telephone. The parent or guardian must sign and return a release and affidavit of eligibility, which must be completed the day of the taping. Parents or guardians must show picture identification in order for their child to appear as the Weather Kid. Station reserves the right to examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.
3. If a winner cannot be notified within two (2) days, or the parent/legal guardian does not timely sign and return the release and affidavit of eligibility and show proper picture identification, then the winner will be disqualified, and if time permits, the appearance will be awarded to an alternate winner as determined by the Station in its sole and absolute discretion.
4. There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for the appearance on NBC 24. No transfer or assignment of prizes is allowed.
5. Only one appearance on NBC 24 will be awarded per child.
6. Sinclair Communications, LLC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. are not responsible for any liabilities arising directly or indirectly from the appearance on NBC 24 Weather Kid.
7. In claiming the prize, parents/legal guardians acknowledge that Sinclair Communications, LLC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. have the right to publicize the child’s first name, character, likeness, photograph, voice and the fact that the child is the winner for promotional purposes without financial remuneration.
Odds of Winning/Miscellaneous
1. Odds of winning depend on the number of valid nominations received.
2. Complete contest rules are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours at WNWO, 300 S. Byrne Rd., Toledo, OH 43615, and on the Station's website at www.nbc24.com.
3. For a list of prize winners, send a separate, self-addressed, stamped envelope to WNWO, Attn: Weather Kid Contest, 300 S. Byrne Rd., Toledo, OH 43615. Due to the nature of the contest, only the first names and last initials of the winners will be provided.
4. This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited. Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., Sinclair Communications, LLC, Facebook.Inc., Facebook.com, and The Douglas Group, Inc. dba UPICKEM accept no responsibility or liability in connection with any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by or resulting from the acceptance, possession or use of any prize awarded hereunder.
5. Sinclair Communications, LLC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. are not liable if the provider of any part of the prize fails to satisfy its obligations to furnish its portion of the appearance. The Station, any sponsors or prize providers shall not be responsible for winner’s failure to appear on the determined Wednesday, or for cancellation of the appearance by the winner.
6. Station cannot be held liable for any lost or stolen entries, prizes, or contest information.
7. Station reserves the right to make rules and contest changes, and change the aforementioned contest dates.
8. By entering this contest, each entrant waives any and all claims of liability against the Station, any sponsors, Facebook.com, and their respective parent, affiliates, officers, directors, employees and agents, for any and all claims, loss, damage or injury which may occur as a result of entrant’s participation in this contest.
9. Facebook, Inc. and www.facebook.com (collectively, “Facebook”) are not affiliated with the Station or this contest. This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by or associated with Facebook.
